The EMJM PHID is a collaborative master's program focused on Public Health in disaster situations. in Sweden is a leading center for medical research and education, founded in
1810. Known for selecting Nobel laureates in Physiology or Medicine since 1901,
KI ranks 37th globally and 8th in Europe in the 2023 Academic Ranking of World
Universities (ARWU). KI excels in Nursing, Public Health, Biological Sciences,
Clinical Medicine, and Pharmaceutical Sciences. With over 6,000 full-time
students and 2,163 doctoral students, KI offers a stimulating academic
environment supported by active research conducted in 22 departments, mostly
near Stockholm's teaching hospitals. The EMJM PHID program will be hosted by
KI's Department of Global Public Health (GPH), which focuses on the impact of
societal phenomena on health and translates research into public health action.
The Global Disaster Medicine – Health Needs and Response group within GPH,
established over 20 years ago, will lead the program. This group specializes in
improving humanitarian assistance in disasters through evidence-based methods
and research on needs assessments, disease burden, healthcare response, and
moral stress for healthcare workers.
University of Nicosia (UNIC)
The University of Nicosia
(UNIC) in Cyprus is the largest private university in the country, with over
12,500 students from more than 100 countries. UNIC offers a wide range of
programs and conducts significant research with a global impact. Recognized by
Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2023 among the top 2% of
universities globally, UNIC excels in International Outlook, ranking 47th
worldwide. Established in 2011, UNIC's Medical School hosts over 1,100 students
from 97 countries, offering state-of-the-art facilities and learning resources.
The EMJM PHID will be delivered by the Department of Primary Care and
Population Health (PCPH) within the Medical School. PCPH focuses on education,
research, and community outreach, including postgraduate programs in Primary
Care and Public Health and projects related to the One Health concept. The Medical
School also runs a Mobile Clinic to serve remote communities and promote health
education and screening programs.
Universidad de Oviedo (UNIOVI)
Founded in 1604,
Universidad de Oviedo in Spain is one of the oldest academic institutions,
hosting over 28,000 students. Recognized as a Campus of International
Excellence by the Spanish Government in 2009, the university excels in
Biomedicine and Health research. As a member of the European University
INGENIUM, it offers opportunities for study, research, and collaboration within
a network of ten prestigious European universities. The EMJM PHID program will
be coordinated by the Department of Medicine within the Faculty of Medicine and
Health Sciences. This department has been a leader in disaster research in
Spain, working on public health, medical response, environmental approaches,
and climate change, often in collaboration with the Health Research Institute
of Asturias (ISPA).
Contribution to subsistence costs (for both programme and partner country scholarship holders)
€ 1,400 per month for the entire duration of the EMJMD study programme (24 months maximum).
Minimum mobility requirements for all students: if a student has to study in his/her country of residence, he/she will need at least two other physical mobility periods of 30 ECTS each, one of them in a Member State or country associated to the Programme to be able to receive the full monthly allowances.
Admission and selection criteria
The EMJM PHID program
offers up to 25 spots for highly qualified students from any country. The
admission process is managed entirely online.
Student Admission Criteria
To apply for the EMJM PHID
master program, applicants must have an undergraduate degree recognized in
their home country and by the consortium member countries (Spain, Sweden,
Cyprus). Degrees in fields like Health, Management, Administration, Law, Social
Sciences, or Technical Sciences are considered. The degree should involve at
least three years of study and a minimum of 180 ECTS or equivalent.
English Proficiency
Applicants need to
demonstrate English proficiency at a C1 level in the CEFR. Accepted tests
include:
- IELTS: minimum score of 6.5 overall
with 6.5 in writing and at least 6.0 in other components.
- TOEFL (IBT): minimum score of 79 with
at least 20 in writing.
- TOEFL (paper-based): minimum score of
550.
Native English speakers
from the UK, Ireland, USA, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada are exempt.
Non-native speakers who completed a degree in English in these countries need
to provide their English certification from their degree.
Application Procedures
Applicants must complete
an online application and upload digital copies of supporting documents like
certificates and transcripts. No original documents are needed initially, but
certified copies must be sent by mail upon admission. Incomplete applications
may be rejected.

English, with official translations if necessary.

is December 31 each year. Key dates include:

Student Selection Procedure and Criteria
Applications are
pre-screened for completeness and eligibility. Complete applications are
assessed on:
- Academic Record (30%):
Based on academic marks and relevance to the program.
- Professional and Research Experience
(30%): Points awarded for relevant work and research
experience.
- Personal Interview (40%):
Assesses motivation, academic ability, and fit with the program.
Admission and Registration
The Consortium Committee
will approve the list of admitted students and those proposed for Erasmus
Mundus Scholarships. All applicants will be notified of the results and
provided with further instructions if selected.
Student Agreement
Enrolled students will
sign an agreement outlining rights and obligations, financial arrangements, and
the course timeline.
